Why coaches stall
Most coaches don't drop out during training. They drift after it.
Why newly trained coaches struggle to get their ICF credential, and what it takes.
The certificate arrives, the classes stop, and the requirement that's left is the one nobody can hand you: hours with real, paying clients.
A newly trained coach needs 75 paid hours before they can even apply for an ACC. Getting there means finding paying clients before you hold the credential that helps you find paying clients. That circle is where most coaching journeys quietly end, months after the training was already paid for.
- The gapACC needs 100+ coaching hours, 75 of them paid. PCC needs 500+, with 450 paid.
- The catchHours must be logged with client details and can be audited by the ICF. Practice with friends doesn't qualify.
- The examA proctored situational-judgment test. It doesn't ask what the competencies are; it asks what you'd do.
- The fixCredentium™ supplies coaching hours that count as paid hours, and the test prep to go with them.
Paid coaching hours
The hardest requirement, handled inside your program.
How to get the paid coaching hours you need for an ICF ACC or PCC application.
Coaching delivered through the Credentium™ platform counts as paid coaching on your ICF application. You are building the number the ICF asks for and a real client portfolio at the same time, starting while you are still in class.
Real clients, not role-play
You are matched with people who came looking for coaching. They have an actual goal, an actual life, and no obligation to be easy on you.
Hours recorded as you go
Each engagement is logged with the client details the ICF requires, so your application is audit-ready rather than reconstructed from memory two years later.
Testimonials and track record
The same engagements become the references and case history you'll use to win your next clients, and later carry into your Lumyx™ profile.
The ICF Credentialing Exam
It tests judgment, not recall.
What the ICF Credentialing Exam tests, with a sample question to try.
The exam replaced the old Coach Knowledge Assessment and is required for the ACC, PCC, and MCC. It presents realistic coaching situations and asks what you would do, with several options that all sound defensible.
Coaches who study by memorizing the competency definitions tend to be surprised by it. Try the sample and see how it reads.
Ten full-length practice tests
Sit the exam ten times before it counts.
ICF Credentialing Exam practice tests with feedback on each core competency.
Each test runs at full length and returns an analysis of where you are strong and where you are not, broken down by competency rather than as a single pass-or-fail score.
Repeating that ten times turns a vague sense of unreadiness into a short, specific list of things to work on — usually two or three, not twenty.

Questions
Questions about getting your ICF credential
ACC and PCC requirements, coaching hours, the exam, and timelines.
How many coaching hours do I need for an ICF ACC or PCC credential?
For the ACC, the ICF asks for at least 100 hours of coaching experience with at least 8 clients, and at least 75 of those hours must be paid. For the PCC, it asks for at least 500 hours with at least 25 clients, with at least 450 paid. In both cases some of the hours (25 for ACC, 50 for PCC) must be completed within the 18 months before you apply. You also need coach-specific training (60+ hours for ACC, 125+ for PCC), 10 hours of mentor coaching, a performance evaluation, and a pass on the ICF Credentialing Exam.
Do Credentium™ coaching hours count as paid hours on my ICF application?
Yes. Coaching completed through the Credentium™ platform counts as paid coaching hours on your ICF application, logged with the client details the ICF requires. This is the distinction between Credentium™ and Cognium™: Cognium™ is AI practice that builds your skill and does not count for hours, while Credentium™ is real coaching that does.
Can a coach training program guarantee my ICF credential?
No, and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. The ICF awards credentials, not training providers. Credentium™ removes the two obstacles that stop most people — accumulating paid hours and walking into the exam unprepared — but you still have to do the coaching and pass the test.
Should I get the ICF ACC or PCC first?
Most coaches earn the ACC first and upgrade to the PCC as their client hours accumulate. ACC is the entry credential and is what the majority of credentialed coaches hold. PCC signals substantially more experience and is increasingly asked for by corporate buyers and coaching platforms. Symbiosis offers both Level 1 and Level 2 pathways, so you can start on one and continue to the other.
Is ICF mentor coaching included, or does it cost extra?
Included. The ten hours of mentor coaching the ICF requires are part of the Level 1 and Level 2 pathways, delivered by qualified mentor coaches over at least three months. Many providers charge for these separately.
How long does it take to get an ICF ACC credential?
Training runs 12 to 25 weeks depending on the program, with one live two-hour class a week. After that the timeline depends entirely on how quickly you log coaching hours, which is exactly the variable Credentium™ is designed to compress. In practice most coaches reach the ACC in six to twelve months.
Do ICF coach training hours expire?
No. Coach-specific training hours from an ICF-accredited provider do not expire, so hours you earn now stay valid for a future application. Credentials themselves expire and must be renewed every three years with 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education.
Is credentialing support included in the program cost?
Yes. Credentium™ is included with all ICF Level 1 and Level 2 programs, at no extra cost.
