ICF coach training · Six accredited schools compared

ICF coach certification compared: cost, hours, and what’s included

Every school on this page is ICF-accredited. Every one of them will get you to a credential. What separates them is what you pay for the hours, how much of the credential is bundled into the price you first see, and whether anyone helps you find the clients the ICF insists you coach. Here is the whole picture, with sources.

Method

How these were made comparable

Coach training tuition is hard to compare because schools sell different-shaped things. Some quote a course; some quote a credential pathway; some quote a course and sell the mentoring separately. Three rules were applied to every school here.

01

Compare pathways, not courses

Each figure is the published tuition for the package a student needs to reach a specific ICF credential level — Level 1 for the ACC, Level 2 for the PCC. Where a school sells that as two purchases, both are added together.

02

Use the list price, then show the extras

Bars and headline figures use standard pay-in-full tuition, before promotional codes, early-bird windows or subsidies. Discounts move constantly and are not a stable basis for comparison. They are listed separately further down, because they are real money.

03

Track what the ICF requires but the price may not include

An ICF credential needs four things: training hours, ten hours of mentor coaching, a performance evaluation, and a large bank of logged coaching hours with real clients. Where a school leaves any of those out of tuition, it is marked, and the add-on cost is shown where one is published.

Level 1

The ACC pathway

The ICF requires at least 60 training hours, 10 mentor coaching hours, 100 coaching hours and a performance evaluation. What each school includes for its tuition:

ICF Level 1 / ACC — published tuition and inclusions
School Package ICF hrs 10 mentor hrs Performance eval Coaching hours Tuition
Symbiosis Any one core program + Level 1 65–95 Included Included Credentium — 100+, 75+ paid $2,623
Coach Training Alliance Certified Coach Program 60 Sold separately Sold separately Peer coaching facilitated $3,949
Erickson Essentials + Level 1 Mentor Bundle 60 Included Included Student’s responsibility $4,300
Co-Active (CTI) Foundations + Ignite with ACC Supervision 60 11 hrs included Included Student’s responsibility $5,770
Coach U Phase 1: Core Essentials 78 Not listed Not listed Student’s responsibility $6,395
iPEC Coach Training Program 160 In program In program Student’s responsibility $9,995

iPEC is accredited at Level 2, so its single program overshoots the ACC requirement considerably — it is included here because it is the entry point to iPEC certification, not because it is a like-for-like ACC product. The CTI figure combines two required purchases: Co-Active Foundations at $490, a prerequisite, and Ignite the Practice at $5,280 for the option that includes the ACC Supervision Package. Ignite without that package is $3,490 but does not include mentoring or a performance evaluation. Symbiosis Coaching hours vary by which core program is chosen: 95 for Certified Life Coach and Certified Organizational Development Coach, 70 for Certified Executive Coach, 65 for Certified NLP Coach.

The requirement that isn't measured in money

Training hours can be bought. The 100 coaching hours an ACC application needs — 75 of them paid or bartered, across at least eight clients — cannot. For most candidates this is the slowest part of credentialing, and every school on this page except two leaves the student to solve it alone.

Symbiosis Coaching includes access to Credentium, a platform where students accumulate coaching hours during the program. Those sessions are bartered coaching, which the ICF counts as paid — so they satisfy the paid-hours requirement, not merely the total. Level 1 students are pointed at 100+ total hours with 75+ paid; the package also includes 10 full-length ACC practice tests with performance analysis. Coach Training Alliance facilitates reciprocal peer coaching toward the same requirement. Erickson, Coach U, iPEC and CTI teach the hours and leave the client-finding to the graduate.

The gap is wider than the bar chart shows

Coach Training Alliance publishes $3,949, which reads as the closest competitor to Symbiosis Coaching. But its Level 1 pathway page lists mentoring and the performance evaluation as separate purchases: group mentor coaching covering 7 of the 10 required hours is $699, and the remaining 3 one-on-one hours are contracted directly with a mentor at $150–$250 per hour. The performance evaluation is priced separately again.

That puts a realistic CTA route to the ACC at roughly $5,100–$5,400 before the evaluation — against $2,623 all-in at Symbiosis. Coach U does not publish mentoring in its tuition either, so its true figure is also above the $6,395 shown.

Level 2

The PCC pathway

The step up to 125+ training hours is where the pricing spreads furthest apart. Symbiosis Coaching reaches Level 2 by combining two core programs, which is why its hour counts run well past the minimum. The PCC also demands 500 coaching hours, 450 of them paid — five times the ACC requirement, and the single biggest obstacle between a trained coach and a credential. Symbiosis Level 2 students accumulate those hours through Credentium as bartered coaching, which the ICF counts as paid, and get 10 full-length PCC practice tests. No other school here supplies the hours. Coach Training Alliance is absent from this table because it is accredited at ICF Level 1 only; its Certified Coach Program carries 60 accredited hours and does not lead to the PCC.

ICF Level 2 / PCC — published tuition and inclusions
School Package ICF hrs 10 mentor hrs Performance eval Coaching hours Tuition
Symbiosis Two core programs + Level 2 135–190 Included Included Credentium — 500+, 450+ paid $4,147
Symbiosis Three core programs + Level 2 230–260 Included Included Credentium — 500+, 450+ paid $5,671
Symbiosis All four core programs + Level 2 325 Included Included Credentium — 500+, 450+ paid $7,195
Erickson Essentials + Advanced + L2 Mentor Bundle 125 Included PCC oral assessment Student’s responsibility $8,300
iPEC Coach Training Program 160 In program In program Student’s responsibility $9,995
iPEC Coach Training Program + COR.E Dynamics 200 In program In program Student’s responsibility $11,990
Co-Active (CTI) Foundations + Ignite + Deepen the Work 156.5 10.5 hrs included Included Student’s responsibility $12,470
Coach U Phase 1 + Phase 2 150 Not listed Not listed Student’s responsibility $12,790
Coach Training Alliance No Level 2 pathway offered

CTI's Deepen the Work is the ICF Level 2 accredited component at $8,490; Foundations and Ignite the Practice are prerequisites, adding $3,980 at the lower Ignite option. CTI advertises an unspecified bundle discount when Deepen is booked together with Ignite on the Fast Track, so the true figure may fall below $12,470. CTI's own credential, the CPCC, is awarded by the Co-Active Training Institute rather than the ICF; the program separately meets ICF Level 2 requirements for a PCC application. iPEC's own site states 160 accredited hours for the Coach Training Program in one place and 200 in another; 160 is used here for the program alone, and 200 for the program taken with COR.E Dynamics, which is how the higher figure is described elsewhere on the site.

Unit economics

Cost per ICF training hour

Tuition alone rewards schools that teach less. Dividing tuition by accredited training hours is the fairer measure, and it is the number no school publishes. At Level 2, where Symbiosis Coaching bundles multiple programs, the spread is roughly four to one. Five schools appear here rather than six: Coach Training Alliance does not hold ICF Level 2 accreditation, so it has no PCC pathway to price. It appears in the Level 1 table below.

$21.83 Symbiosis Coaching Level 2, CLC + CODC
190 hrs / $4,147
$59.95 iPEC CTP + COR.E Dynamics
200 hrs / $11,990
$66.40 Erickson Level 2 package
125 hrs / $8,300
$79.68 Co-Active (CTI) Foundations to Deepen
156.5 hrs / $12,470
$85.27 Coach U Phase 1 + Phase 2
150 hrs / $12,790
Cost per accredited training hour — Level 1 pathways
School Package Hours Tuition Per hour
Symbiosis Life Coach or OD Coach + Level 1 95 $2,623 $27.61
Symbiosis Executive Coach + Level 1 70 $2,623 $37.47
Symbiosis NLP Coach + Level 1 65 $2,623 $40.35
iPEC Coach Training Program 160 $9,995 $62.47
Coach Training Alliance Certified Coach Program 60 $3,949 $65.82
Erickson Level 1 package 60 $4,300 $71.67
Coach U Phase 1: Core Essentials 78 $6,395 $81.99
Co-Active (CTI) Foundations + Ignite with ACC Supervision 60 $5,770 $96.17

CTA and Coach U figures exclude mentoring and evaluation costs, which are not in their published tuition. Including them raises both.

Single programs

Buying one course, not a pathway

Only three of the six schools sell a meaningful unit below the full credential package, and two of those function as prerequisites rather than genuine entry points. This is where the difference is starkest: a Symbiosis Coaching core program delivers more than twice the accredited hours of iPEC's entry course for a fifth less money.

Entry-level standalone offerings
School Program Format ICF hrs Price Per hour
Symbiosis Certified Life Coach 24 weeks, one 2-hr live class weekly 95 $1,599 $16.83
Symbiosis Certified Organizational Development Coach 25 weeks, one 2-hr live class weekly 95 $1,599 $16.83
Symbiosis Certified Executive Coach 15 weeks, one 2-hr live class weekly 70 $1,599 $22.84
Symbiosis Certified NLP Coach 25 weeks, one 2-hr live class weekly 65 $1,599 $24.60
Symbiosis Certified Emotional Intelligence Coach Specialty add-on 29 CCE $699 $24.10
Co-Active (CTI) Co-Active Foundations 1 day, 8 hrs live 8 $490 $61.25
iPEC Coaching Fundamentals 3-day intensive 30 $1,995 $66.50
Erickson Essentials sold within the Level 1 package
Coach Training Alliance No accredited unit below the Certified Coach Program
Coach U Individual courses available; Phase 1 is the accredited unit

iPEC applies the $1,995 Coaching Fundamentals fee toward full program tuition if a student later enrolls, so it functions as a deposit as much as a course. CTI Foundations is the cheapest entry point on this page at $490, but it is a required prerequisite rather than an optional taster, and its 8 hours are a fraction of an ACC requirement.

Beyond the hours

What else the tuition buys

Training hours are the part every school prices. The rest — how you practice, how you reach a credential, what happens after you graduate — is where the packages actually diverge. Symbiosis Coaching bundles four accelerators at no extra cost: three come with any program, and Credentium comes with every Level 1 and Level 2 pathway.

Symbiosis Coaching accelerators and the closest thing the field offers
Accelerator What it does Included with Closest equivalent elsewhere
Cognium AI practice environment with 52 coaching personas, available at any hour Every program Nothing comparable. CTI runs weekly practice pods with 9–10 peers and CTA runs reciprocal peer coaching, but both are scheduled and cohort-bound.
Credentium Platform for accumulating coaching hours as barter, which the ICF counts as paid, plus 10 full-length ACC or PCC practice tests Level 1 and Level 2 pathways CTA facilitates peer coaching toward the hours. CTI includes exam prep in its ACC package. No school here publishes practice tests or supplies paid hours.
EmpowerAI AI built into the learning itself rather than offered as a separate module Every program Coach U bundles Coaching D-Partner, an AI feedback tool, for 10 hours in Phase 2. Nobody else publishes an AI component.
Lumyx Client-facing profile, business tools, resource library and global community, free for life after graduation Every program Matched across the field. iPEC, CTI, CTA and Erickson all run alumni communities and coach directories.

Accelerator access carries no separate fee at Symbiosis Coaching and is not an upsell after enrollment. Competitor equivalents are drawn from each school's published program pages; absence here means a school does not publish the feature, not that it does not exist.

Two of these change the comparison, one does not

Cognium and Credentium have no real counterpart in this set. Unlimited on-demand practice and a supply of ICF-countable paid hours both attack the same bottleneck: the gap between finishing a course and being good enough, and credentialed enough, to charge for it. That bottleneck costs a coach months, and no competitor here prices a solution to it.

Lumyx is worth stating plainly as table stakes. Every school in this comparison runs an alumni network and a coach directory, several of them larger than Symbiosis Coaching's — iPEC's graduate support has been singled out by Forbes, and CTI's network spans 120 countries. Lumyx keeps Symbiosis level on that ground rather than ahead of it.

Paying over time

Installments, discounts and subsidies

Headline tuition is only half of what a prospective student compares. The other half is whether they can afford it this month, and whether they belong to a group the school discounts.

Payment terms and standing discounts
School Installment plan Cost of paying monthly Standing discounts
Symbiosis Two routes — EasyPay, 6 monthly payments in-house; or SuperSaver paid through Klarna at checkout Klarna: interest-free options available
EasyPay: L1 $505×6 = $3,030, adds $407 · L2 $760×6 = $4,560, adds $413
Package discount of $75 per additional program
Coach Training Alliance 3, 7 or 9 installments Not published Rotating promo codes — currently $750 off
Erickson Interest-free plans; multiple currencies No interest advertised 25% veteran discount · youth subsidy, ages 22–26
iPEC 0% short-term plans for those who qualify; third-party financing from $350/mo 0% in-house; third-party rates vary by credit $250 off when paying in full · seasonal incentives
Co-Active (CTI) Payment options offered at registration; terms not published Not published Bundle discount when Deepen is booked with Ignite — amount not published
Coach U Not advertised; tuition due before start $400 early-bird, 45+ days ahead · military · multi-enrollment

The Symbiosis Coaching Klarna route appears at the payment step after selecting the SuperSaver plan on the enrollment page, and carries the SuperSaver price rather than the EasyPay total. Klarna terms are set by Klarna and depend on approval. Erickson tuition is quoted for online training and excludes taxes. Coach U tuition is non-refundable once a student commences, though it may be transferred once within six months.

Reading the numbers

Six things this analysis shows

01

Cognium, Credentium and EmpowerAI have no counterpart in this field — and none of them is an upsell

Symbiosis Coaching bundles four accelerators at no extra cost, and three of them are genuinely unmatched by any school in this comparison. Cognium is an AI practice environment with 52 coaching personas available at any hour, so a student can rehearse a difficult client conversation at midnight, repeatedly, before meeting a real client. CTI runs weekly practice pods and CTA runs reciprocal peer coaching, but both are scheduled and cohort-bound — neither is on demand. Credentium supplies coaching hours the ICF counts as paid, plus ten full-length ACC or PCC practice tests; no other school here publishes either. EmpowerAI builds AI into the curriculum itself rather than offering it as a separate module — Coach U bundles an AI feedback tool for ten hours in one phase, and nobody else in the set publishes an AI component at all.

The point worth stressing is that access carries no separate fee and is not an upsell after enrollment. Three accelerators come with any program; Credentium comes with every Level 1 and Level 2 pathway. A student who buys the cheapest Level 1 pathway in this comparison receives all of it.

The honest boundary: Lumyx, the fourth accelerator, is table stakes rather than an advantage. Every school here runs an alumni network and a coach directory, several of them larger — iPEC's graduate support has been singled out by Forbes and CTI's network spans 120 countries. Lumyx keeps Symbiosis Coaching level on that ground rather than ahead of it. The first three are where the structural difference actually sits, and a price list cannot show any of it.

02

The coaching-hours problem is where the offer is genuinely unusual

Price is a solved problem for a student with a budget. Finding 100 paying clients' worth of coaching hours, or 500 for a PCC, is not — it is the requirement that strands most trained coaches short of a credential, and it is entirely absent from how these schools compete.

Credentium is the only offer on this page that supplies those hours rather than assuming the graduate will find them, and because the sessions are bartered coaching they count as paid under ICF rules — clearing the harder half of the requirement, not just the easier half. That is a harder thing to build than a discount and a harder thing for a competitor to copy, which makes it more durable than the price advantage it currently sits behind.

03

Bundling extends to the ICF requirements themselves, and it is invisible in a price list

Mentor hours and the performance evaluation are ICF requirements, not upsells. Symbiosis Coaching and Erickson include both; CTA and Coach U do not. A student comparing $2,623 to $3,949 sees a $1,326 gap. The real gap, once CTA's mentoring is bought, is closer to $2,500. This is why the comparison has to be built from inclusions rather than headline figures — the cheapest number on a page is frequently not the cheapest route to a credential.

04

Symbiosis Coaching is the price leader at every tier, not just the entry point

At Level 1, tuition sits 34% below the next-cheapest school and 57% below the five-school average of $6,082. At Level 2 the gap widens to 50% below Erickson, 67% below CTI and 68% below Coach U — 62% below the four-school average of $10,889. Nothing in the set undercuts Symbiosis at any level.

05

Cost per training hour is the strongest defensible claim

It is a single number, it is arithmetic rather than opinion, and it holds up against every school here: $22–$40 per hour against $60–$96. It also sidesteps the trap of arguing on price alone, because it frames the comparison around what a student receives. CTI is the clearest illustration — the best-known name in the field charges $96 an hour at Level 1, the highest figure on this page.

06

The discount toolkit is thinner — arguably by design

Erickson runs a 25% veteran discount and a youth subsidy. Coach U runs early-bird, military and multi-enrollment discounts. iPEC discounts pay-in-full and runs seasonal incentives. CTA runs promo codes worth up to $750. CTI discounts bundled enrollments. Symbiosis Coaching has a $75-per-program package discount and nothing aimed at a particular audience.

That is a coherent position rather than an oversight. When tuition already sits 34% to 74% below the field at Level 1, the low price is the discount — and a school that never marks down never teaches its market to wait for a sale. Every promo code CTA issues is an argument that its list price was never real.

The trade-off is that discounts do two things a flat price does not: they say something specific to a specific group, and they give a hesitating prospect a reason to enroll this month rather than next. Worth deciding whether that is a trade being made deliberately or by default.

Head to head

Compare Symbiosis Coaching with one school at a time

This page sets all six providers against each other. If you have narrowed the decision to one alternative, these pages go deeper on that single comparison — inclusions, hours, payment terms and the questions worth asking before you enrol.

Bars compare published Level 1 tuition, scaled to the highest figure in the set. Level 1 is used because it is the only tier where all six schools offer a pathway. Full Level 1 and Level 2 figures are in the tables above.

Next stepSymbiosis Coaching publishes full tuition for every pathway and every standalone program, with instalment options and current promotions shown at checkout. No quote request, no call required to see a price.
