Why it exists
Knowing the competencies and holding them are different skills.
How to practice coaching skills between classes, without waiting for a practice partner.
You can define active listening on a Tuesday and still fill the silence on a Wednesday.
The gap between understanding a competency and doing it live closes one way only: repetition, with someone telling you honestly what happened. Cognium™ gives you both — a client who behaves like a real client, and a debrief that names the exact turn where you drifted.
This is skill-building, not hour-building. Cognium™ sessions are practice, and practice is where the improvement lives.
- TheoryCoursework teaches you what good coaching looks like. It cannot teach your mouth to stay closed for four more seconds.
- PartnersPeer practice cancels, reschedules, and runs across incompatible time zones. The reps you planned quietly don't happen.
- ComfortFriends and colleagues make generous clients. They accept a weak question and move on, so you never find out it was weak.
- FeedbackReal clients rarely tell you where you lost them. Without that, you repeat the same habit for a hundred sessions.
The roster
Fifty-two people who will not make it easy for you.
52 AI client personas for life, executive, and organizational coaching practice.
Each persona holds a consistent history, a way of deflecting, and something they aren't ready to say out loud yet. They don't reward leading questions, and they don't collapse into insight because you asked nicely — which is exactly what makes them worth practicing on. Open any one to see the brief.
Marcus D., 44Newly promoted engineering director avoiding a conflict with a peer.
- The brief
- Competent, well-liked, and three months into a role where being the smartest person in the room no longer helps him. He will describe the conflict in operational terms for as long as you let him.
- What it trains
- Maintains Presence · Evokes Awareness
- How they deflect
- Reaches for process detail whenever the conversation gets personal.
Priya R., 31Wants to leave a stable career but keeps re-litigating the decision.
- The brief
- Has made this decision four times and unmade it four times. Arrives with a pros-and-cons list and would very much like you to look at it.
- What it trains
- Listens Actively · Facilitates Client Growth
- How they deflect
- Asks you what you would do.
Denise O., 57HR director asked to coach a team through a restructure she disagrees with.
- The brief
- Holds real institutional power and a real conflict of loyalty. The coaching agreement itself is the first thing that needs work.
- What it trains
- Establishes Agreements · Ethical Practice
- How they deflect
- Blurs the line between her goals and the organization’s.
Tom H., 38Discloses something mid-session that may not belong in coaching.
- The brief
- Warm, funny, forthcoming — and about twelve minutes in, he names something that sits closer to therapy than coaching. What you do next is the whole session.
- What it trains
- Ethical Practice · Cultivates Trust and Safety
- How they deflect
- Tests whether you’ll keep going where you shouldn’t.
Aiko S., 29High performer who has stopped speaking up in leadership meetings.
- The brief
- Will give you clean, articulate answers to every question you ask. None of them will be the real one until you slow down.
- What it trains
- Maintains Presence · Evokes Awareness
- How they deflect
- Agrees with you quickly and pleasantly.
Ray B., 62Eighteen months from retirement and quietly dreading it.
- The brief
- Says he is here to plan the logistics. He is not here to plan the logistics.
- What it trains
- Listens Actively · Establishes Agreements
- How they deflect
- Keeps the session firmly practical.
Nadia F., 41Founder whose leadership team has stopped disagreeing with her.
- The brief
- Fast, decisive, and certain the problem is other people. She will interrupt you, and how you handle that is the session.
- What it trains
- Cultivates Trust and Safety · Coaching Mindset
- How they deflect
- Answers the question she wishes you had asked.
Elliot K., 26Wants you to tell his manager what came up in the session.
- The brief
- Sponsored coaching, a nervous client, and a confidentiality boundary that has to be re-established out loud, mid-conversation.
- What it trains
- Ethical Practice · Establishes Agreements
- How they deflect
- Asks for something the agreement does not allow.

A session, start to finish
Four steps. About forty minutes.
How an AI coaching practice session works, from choosing a client to reviewing your feedback.
Pick who you're coaching
Filter by competency you want to work on, by difficulty, or by the kind of client you plan to build a practice around.
Run the session
Type or speak. The persona responds in character, holds its history across the conversation, and pushes back when you get ahead of it.
Read the competency map
Every exchange is scored against the eight ICF Core Competencies, with the exact lines that earned or cost you the mark.
Run it again, differently
Take the same persona from the top and try the turn you missed. This is the part that changes how you coach.
Competency-mapped feedback
Not a score. A diagnosis.
Feedback on every session, mapped to the eight ICF Core Competencies.
"That was a good session" teaches you nothing. Cognium™ reviews your session against the eight ICF Core Competencies, marks where the evidence was strong, and quotes the moment where it wasn't — so the next session has somewhere specific to go.
It is the same lens applied every time, which means you can watch a weak competency move over ten sessions instead of guessing whether you're improving. That visible progression is the point of the whole accelerator.
Turn 4 — you returned the client to his own experience rather than to the situation. That question did the work.
Turn 7 — you offered a solution while the client was still forming his thought. Sit in that pause next time.

Questions
Questions about practicing coaching with AI
Coaching hours, feedback, costs, and what you need to get started.
How can I practice coaching sessions on my own?
With an AI practice partner. In Cognium™ you coach a realistic persona through a real presenting issue, then read a detailed breakdown of what worked and what didn't. Do that repeatedly and your questions get cleaner, your silences get longer, and your judgment in a live session gets sharper.
Do AI practice sessions count toward ICF coaching hours?
No, and they aren't meant to. The ICF requires hours with real clients, so practice with an AI persona does not count toward the 100+ hours for the ACC or the 500+ for the PCC. Cognium™ builds the skill. Credentium™, the ACC/PCC accelerator, is the separate part of the ecosystem that supplies qualifying coaching hours, and every session completed there counts as a paid coaching hour on your ICF application.
Does the AI coaching practice tool cost extra?
No. Cognium™ is included with all certification programs.
Can AI replace a mentor coach or coaching instructor?
No, and it isn't designed to. Humans stay in charge across the whole ecosystem. Your live classes are instructor-led, and the ten hours of mentor coaching required for an ICF credential are done with a credentialed mentor coach who observes your real coaching. Cognium™ is where you put in reps between those sessions, so you arrive at them further along.
How does AI feedback on the ICF Core Competencies work?
Each session is assessed against the eight ICF Core Competencies — ethical practice, coaching mindset, agreements, trust and safety, presence, active listening, evoking awareness, and facilitating client growth. The report marks the level of evidence for each and cites the specific turns that supported or undercut it, so you know precisely what to do differently next time. It is a development tool, not an ICF assessment.
What do I need to use AI coaching practice?
A browser and a microphone if you want to speak rather than type. Nothing to install.
