ICF coach training · published tuition, two schools
Symbiosis Coaching vs Coach U
Coach U is the oldest school in this comparison and its lineage runs directly to the founding of the ICF itself. It is also the only one here that publishes neither mentoring nor a performance evaluation in its tuition — which means the real gap is wider than the published one.
Coach U does not publish mentoring or a performance evaluation within its tuition, so the true cost of reaching an ACC or PCC through Coach U is above the figures shown here. The amount is not published and is therefore not estimated.Coach U tuition is non-refundable once a student commences, though it may be transferred once within six months.Coach U offers individual courses as well as the phased pathway; Phase 1 is the accredited unit and is the figure used here. All tuition figures are the schools' own published prices, verified August 20, 2026, pay-in-full, US dollars, before promotional codes. Background details — founding dates, graduate numbers, credentials awarded, class format — come from each school's own public company materials rather than the tuition pages linked below. Promotional descriptions have not been reproduced; where a school does not publish a detail, this page says so rather than inferring it.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Symbiosis Coaching
Choose Symbiosis if you want every ICF requirement inside one published price, if you need to pay monthly, and if you want the coaching-hour requirement solved rather than assigned to you.
Cost is where this comparison starts, not where it ends. Every requirement an ICF application makes — the ten mentor coaching hours, the performance evaluation — sits inside the published tuition rather than alongside it. So do four accelerators, which stay with you free for life after you graduate.
The structure is yours to choose. Take a single certification at $1,599 and start practising, or build a Level 1 or Level 2 pathway across two, three or four core programs, reaching up to 325 accredited hours. Classes are live and instructor-led at 10am, 2pm and 8pm New York time, so a working schedule almost anywhere in the world can accommodate one.

Choose Coach U
Choose Coach U if provenance matters to you. It was founded in 1988 by Thomas J. Leonard, who also founded the International Coach Federation itself, and its curriculum has been refined over more than three decades — the deepest roots of any school here. It also bundles Coaching D-Partner, an AI feedback tool, for ten hours in Phase 2, and sells individual courses for students who want to spread learning over a longer period than a fixed cohort allows.

Four accelerators, no extra fee
Training hours are the part every school prices. What happens between finishing a course and being good enough — and credentialed enough — to charge for it is where the packages actually diverge. These come with a Symbiosis Coaching program and are not an upsell after enrollment.
Questions
Common questions
Which is more cost effective, Symbiosis Coaching or Coach U?
On published tuition, the Symbiosis ACC pathway is $2,623 against $6,395 for Coach U Phase 1, 59% less. At Level 2 it is $4,147 against $12,790, 68% less. The real gap is larger, because Coach U does not include mentoring or a performance evaluation in those figures.
What is missing from the Coach U published price?
Coach U does not list the ten mentor coaching hours or the performance evaluation the ICF requires within its published tuition. Both are mandatory for an ACC or PCC application, so a student will pay for them somewhere. Symbiosis Coaching includes both.
Can I pay Coach U monthly?
Coach U does not advertise an instalment plan; tuition is due before the program starts. Symbiosis Coaching offers EasyPay, six monthly payments in-house, or a SuperSaver plan payable through Klarna at checkout.
What is Coach U's refund policy?
Coach U tuition is non-refundable once a student commences, though it may be transferred once within six months. Check the current terms directly before enrolling, as policies change.
Which school gives me more accredited hours for the money?
Symbiosis Coaching, by a wide margin. Its Certified Life Coach program plus Level 1 delivers 95 accredited hours for $2,623, or $27.61 per hour. Coach U Phase 1 delivers 78 hours for $6,395, or $81.99 per hour — three times as much per hour, before mentoring and evaluation costs are added.
Can I get certified without committing to an ICF credential pathway?
At Symbiosis Coaching, yes. Every core program — Certified Life Coach, Executive Coach, Organizational Development Coach and NLP Coach — is sold standalone at $1,599 and carries 65 to 95 ICF training hours with a certificate. Coach U publishes no accredited unit below Phase 1: Core Essentials at $6,395, so the smallest purchase that counts toward a credential there is four times the Symbiosis price.
Next stepSymbiosis Coaching publishes full tuition for every pathway and every standalone program, with instalment options shown at checkout — no quote request and no call required to see a price. Compare it against what Coach U lists before you decide.
